When we move our fingers during a talk, the direction in which we move them tells much about how we feel.
If we move our fingers outward we might be feeling comfortable. We could also know how a relaxed person appears to us, so we try to imitate that image. We will often overdo the gesture if we are uncomfortable but pretend because our emotions are uncalibrated.
For example, we might display our palms in an attempt to seem at ease. We don’t realize that we are also making a stop gesture, that is, from a subconscious perspective.
