I remember when I discovered secrecy.

Santa Claus was the best part of the Christmas season and the first secret. It is only in memory that you see you had doubts from the start. Everyone I know began asking questions early.

There would be answers, and those would work until they failed.

You would ask more questions, get more answers, and so on until you discovered the first secret — this was a secret you had to figure out for yourself.

Then you would, and life would go on until such time that you had to play your role in passing on the secret of Santa.

The cause and the secret was one that every person reading these words had to experience for themselves.

Sometimes I think that the whole purpose of this ritual is to teach children the real secret at the center of the human condition. That central secret might be that all of life is full of secrets for you to decode.

That central secret might be that we construct it that way because of how delicious life is within the mystery, such that one is reluctant to take that from someone else before it is time.
