That One Time a Dog Saved Me After Dark

Dogs are just so necessary

Barnimages

The World War I vet and his dog round the corner as I pace back and forth.

I am practicing a speech.

Despite the crepuscular gloom, the weave of his selvedge denim, his Grenson boots, his full beard, and his dog make him seem like an improbably bespoke soldier home from the war circa 1919.

Or perhaps he is a miner from the Island of GQisstan, City of Alarmingly Handsome Men.

His dog runs toward me and starts to bark.

Tin Tin’s Dog Snowy

This good boy is the spitting image of Milou the dog, as drawn by Georges Remi. Remi, who went by the name Hergê, was the cartoonist who created Tin Tin.

Snowy is Milou’s name as translated from the French.

The only difference between Snowy and this wire fox terrier is that Snowy 2.0 has two great patches on his back.

I congratulate him on being such a good boy. Then I get down to his level. I move slowly. I manage my internal state with a few seconds of focus and attention to my breath.

Again, slow, I put out my hand.
